Frequently Asked Questions

01

How much should I budget for wedding flowers in the bay area?

Every wedding is different. Your guest count (# of tables) and how large your designs are, as well as how many luxury flowers are used in the design will affect the cost of your flowers. For typical ranges of individual items, please inquire and we will send our pricing in our client intake form which helps you put together your budget as you fill out your desired quantities.   Just like our housing prices are higher in the SF Bay Area, the cost of living for the labor involved every step of the way from grower to wholesaler to designer means that 'average' prices on blogs are not accurate for the San Francisco Bay Area.

Highly custom work like an installation will depend on the dimensions of the structure or the size of the space. Couples typically spend $8000-$20,000 on their wedding flowers with us. The beautiful bridal bouquets you see on my IG are typically $350-500.

In the floral world, you get what you pay for, so a florist who quotes you a cheaper design is quoting a design with fewer premium blooms or a smaller volume/value in flowers, and a higher price point allows them to work with more premium varieties, create lusher designs and hire more experienced design staff for your event production.  I price my minimums for each design according to what I calculate based on my experience to be necessary to create a proportional design to the space it will occupy in my design style.

Under $2000
Typically only covers personal flowers (bouquets and boutonnieres) and centerpieces for an intimate reception with <30 guests.

$2000-$7000
This will usually cover personal flowers and centerpieces for a reception for about 100 guests, no ceremony install
OR
personal flowers and a ceremony install, no reception flowers.

$8000-$15000
Most couples come to us for full-service weddings in this price range looking for personal flowers, centerpieces for their reception, and a ceremony installation like an arch or chuppah.

Over $15000+
If your vision includes very lush designs, multiple installs or a large guest count, we would budget appropriately for the amount of product and labor needed to execute a floral forward event design.

How do I pick wedding flowers?

Do I need to know the names of flowers I want?  Absolutely not! It takes years to learn all the varieties, their seasons, prices, what volume they take up in an arrangement and how to put together a recipe fulfilling all the design roles of each flower in a color palette. That's our job, not yours, and we are here to save you hundreds of hours in research and planning by having that expertise.  We walk you through Our Process in detail in our Offerings page.

Just come to us with a few photos that capture the mood and aesthetic you're looking for. We'll talk through what you love or don't love in your inspiration photos and formulate a flexible plan that captures the essence of your vision while allowing us to navigate seasonal availability, supply issues like weather, flight/truck delays or pandemics, and also gives us the freedom to introduce you and your guests to amazing unique flowers you may have never seen or heard of! Those special ingredients are often the ones that will be most memorable.

Selecting specific varieties for your wedding and handling required substitutions is a big part of of the stress around wedding flowers that we are here to take off your plate. Mother Nature (and FedEx) can be fickle, and floristry requires a huge amount of flexibility and knowledge - so trust your florist!

03

How much is delivery / setup / strike?

The cost will depend on the size of the order and the distance from our studio. The larger the order the more time and hands it takes to load and unload from a larger vehicle and setup at your venue. Any installation design involving ladders or scissor lifts will add significant time and labor to setup and strike so we need to quote based on your specific vision for your venue.

04

How far in advance should I book my wedding florist?

As soon as you know you want to work with us, get in touch! We only do a limited number of events each year so that our couples can have our full focus in the creative and planning process. Ideally we would prefer you give us at least 2 months to plan. Reach out early if you know you want to work with us because we get new inquiries daily and our calendar fills fast!

Very early planning (a year in advance) also allows us to purchase seeds/bulbs of special varieties for our cutting garden to grow for your event.

05

Should I be budgeting for luxury flowers?

In a visual industry where pretty = king, if a grower/flower breeder can develop something that is breathtakingly beautiful, people will pay top dollar and line up to buy it. They sell out instantly on the market floor. Our minimums reflect what is required to create arrangements of the quality of work we would always be proud to send out that looks proportional to the space it should accent, but any extra budget you put towards your flowers gives us the ability to source and design with these highly desirable textures.

Not to say that inexpensive flowers aren't pretty, but there is a reason and a reality where growers can charge what they charge because people can see the difference in quality and impact, and feel it is well worth it. Breeders spend 5-15 years developing. testing and propagating new varieties, and file patents and charge royalties on every flower sold, as well as limiting which farms they allow to grow their product. Often those really special colors and textures are also a less productive plant, so the farmer has to use more land/labor/inputs for a lower yield of flowers, and has to cover those costs as well.

I've shopped the market enough to know that if something looks really amazing, it will cost more. If your Pinterest board looks expensive, most likely your vision comes with a cost that matches the quality of the products being used.

You can 100% trust that if it is in your priorities to have the most exquisite blooms at your wedding, giving us the budget to source really special ingredients to add to your arrangements will really elevate your entire event. You can let us know how much budget beyond the minimum for each size arrangement you'd like to allocate, and we can put the extra budget towards more of those luxury flowers.  I am also very good at maximizing the impact of just a few stems of these luxury blooms in each design. As long as we are at or above my starting prices in the budget estimator from your intake questionnaire, I am confident that we can make something beautiful, even if we have to scale back, substitute or simplify from your original inspiration.

06

What is your preferred way of communication?

E-mail is the best way to reach us - that way I have everything in writing to reference, since initial consults can be months to a couple years in advance of the actual event and I am working with a huge number of details with each bride. I usually respond as quickly as I can, and some responses require me to reach out to other vendors and wait for their reply. If your question falls on an event week when I am be elbow-deep in designing and processing flowers, or a Saturday when I am on a time-crunch setting up a wedding, you may not hear back until the following Sunday.  Your patience is appreciated!

If YOUR event is that week we ARE always checking for any last minute updates and will respond as soon as possible.

07

Do you provide flowers for  elopements  / microweddings?

When our cutting garden is in season (Mar-Nov), we offer a Garden's Choice bouquet for pick up. We do occasionally take a small custom wedding when your inspiration calls to us creatively and we adore the work of your photographer, or really enjoy working with your planner.

08

Can you duplicate this design?

Maybe, if all the exact ingredients are in season at the same time - but I won't. We will certainly draw inspiration from the designs you love, but we do not copy other florists' designs. What we produce are works of art, unique to your event and our design style. The next florist with the same ingredients will not design with them in the same way. This is why it is so important to pick your florist based on their style of work and your connection and trust in their abilities.

09

Can I repurpose MY FLORAL arrangements?

I encourage repurposing where the size of the arrangement makes sense for the spaces it will occupy, and where repurposing does not require the use of floral foam to make that type of design possible. Good pieces for repurposing include urn arrangements from the ceremony moving to a buffet/bar where they can make a beautiful statement piece, or floor meadows/aisle arrangements to the floor in front of your sweetheart table/edge of the dance floor/in front of the DJ. These pieces are designed in water in a vessel, making them relatively easy to move and well hydrated, although they can still look tired if you want delicate varieties and your ceremony is in a hot/windy location many hours before your reception.

A common example that is a poor choice for repurposing is bridesmaids bouquets: they are often abused (left out of water for too long) so they start to look wilty by dinner time, often too small to look proportional to a 60" round table, and tables will be empty until the bridal party arrives. Another is to try and use aisle pieces for centerpieces. The appropriate height to not block conversation is from your elbow to your chin if you placed your elbow on the table. This height doesn’t even come up to your knee when placed on the floor.

We do charge for additional time on-site to repurpose arrangements since our staff is paid hourly. If your planner is contracted to be on-site for the length of your event and has sufficient staff to help you repurpose, you are welcome to ask them if that is something they can help you with.

10

Do you design foam free?

Yes! We design in wire armatures and kenzans for almost all of our designs. Bouquets are designed with the spiral technique to protect the stems while allowing for loose airy designs. Ingredient selection for how long those flowers will last out of water, proper hydration techniques for each variety and reusable water tubes for the delicate varieties are all important factors in designs. We steer clients away from designs that require foam to execute due to the environmental impact of micro plastics.

11

How should I care for my bridal bouquet?

Keep it somewhere cool and in water whenever possible. It is helpful to assign a bridesmaid or your day-of-coordinator to help pop it back into its vase when you aren't taking photos with it. After being out of water for a while the stems will start to callous over, and even if put back in water the dried ends will prevent it from drinking properly, so when you get home cutting off the bottom 1-2" will let you enjoy it for a few more days!

12

What is something wedding FLORISTS wish more clients knew?

Flowers are one of the most physically demanding and labor intensive parts of your wedding, and your florist does a ton of math to calculate what kind of coverage is needed, production schedules, and working your budget. We plan months in advance, but work with perishables on a tight timeline that requires a whole team of people spending 4-5 days of your wedding week prepping vessels, processing the flowers, lugging heavy buckets / vessels / structures and designing original artistic pieces where the placement of every single stem is thoughtfully considered.   Flowers involve a lot of heavy lifting, a lot of mess, and we are still cleaning the buckets and vases several days after your event. The most expensive portion of your arrangements is the labor behind it.

13

What is your service area?

We take weddings from Napa Valley to Carmel and everywhere in-between in the San Francisco Bay Area out of our Cherryland studio in Hayward, CA (but if your venue is further than this - inquire anyways!). We work with wonderful wholesalers to make destination weddings happen anywhere in the world, and if you are set on working with us we would love to make that happen.  Destination events (>2.5 hours driving one way) include travel fees that cover mileage, airfare and hotel for the team.

Common service areas include San Francisco, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Fairfield, Napa, Sonoma, Sea Ranch, Burlingame, Walnut Creek, Livermore, San Jose,  Saratoga, Woodside, Santa Clara, Oakland, Berkeley, Marin, Half Moon Bay, Tomales, Carmel Valley

14

Do you do wedding packages?

Due to the highly custom nature of weddings, every quote is built based on the needs of the client, but we share our budgeting spreadsheet on first inquiry so you can see how the quote comes together.  This level of transparency is rare in the wedding industry and we hope  you find it helpful!  We are confident that our pricing is fair and aligned with industry standards, but may still need to be adjusted based on specifics of your vision.
